The Drip Menu/Performance

Performancebefore the tournament, not after it.

Performance is a 50-minute IV drip at LUX Med Clinic in Wynne, AR with amino acids, magnesium and taurine in a fluid base, built for the day before a tournament, a two-a-day, or a hard week of training. It's nurse-administered with a free health screen, costs $149, and it supports hydration and normal muscle function — it doesn't make you faster.

01 — What's in the bag

Seven ingredients. Each one has a job.

Your nurse confirms what is right for you at your health screen.

01
Normal saline or Lactated Ringer's
Volume, straight in. In August here, dehydration is the single most common reason someone's legs go at hole fourteen or in the fourth quarter.
02
Amino acid blend
Amino acids are what muscle is built and repaired from. This is the ingredient people come for the day before a hard effort as much as after one.
03
Magnesium chloride
Supports normal muscle function and eases the tightness and cramping that follow a long, hot effort.
04
Taurine
An amino acid found in high concentrations in muscle. Included for muscle and electrolyte support.
05
B-complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6)
What your body uses to get usable energy out of food — the difference between training hard and recovering from it.
06
Vitamin B12
Involved in making red blood cells and in nerve function.
07
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Antioxidant support across a hard block of training.
02 — Is it for me?

For the day before and the day after.

Performance and Recover are close cousins. Performance is the one you book when there's still work ahead of you; Recover is the one you book when the work is done. Take the drip finder.

Book Performance if you…
Have a tournament, a meet, a game or a two-a-day coming up
Train seriously and come out of long sessions cramping
Work outside through an Arkansas summer — the drip doesn't care whether the heat came from a course or a combine
Are traveling to compete and want to arrive hydrated
Skip it, or ask first, if you…
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have kidney disease or heart failure
Are on a fluid restriction, or on blood-pressure or diuretic medication
Have a heart-rhythm condition, or take medication that affects magnesium or potassium
Have ever reacted to any ingredient listed above
Our nurse screens for all of this at check-in. When in doubt, come in and ask — the screen is free, and “not today” is an answer we are willing to give.
03 — How it feels

Your hour, minute by minute.

0–5 min
Check-in and screen.
A few questions, your blood pressure, and we confirm the drip and any boosts.
5–10 min
IV placement.
A small needle in the arm or the back of the hand. A quick pinch, then nothing. Numbing spray if you want it.
10–55 min
The drip.
Recline, blanket, water, Wi-Fi. Magnesium can give a warm, heavy-limbed feeling — most people find it pleasant, and if it's too much the nurse slows the rate.
After
Back to your day.
No downtime and no restriction on training, though most people find magnesium makes them want a nap rather than a session. If you're drip-and-compete on the same day, come in the day before instead.

Tired all the time? It may be iron.
A drip will not fix iron deficiency, and being tired is not a diagnosis. It is one blood test to find out.

06 — Questions

Asked at the desk, answered here.

Will this make me perform better?
It won't make you faster or stronger — nothing in a bag does that. What it does is put fluid, electrolytes and amino acids into you quickly, which matters if you're going into a hard effort dehydrated or coming out of one cramping. If you're already well hydrated and eating properly, the honest answer is that you'll notice less.
Should I get it before or after?
Before, if the goal is arriving hydrated for a tournament or a long day — most people book the afternoon or evening before. After, if the goal is recovery, in which case Recover is usually the better bag. Your nurse will ask what you're training for and tell you which one to take.
I'm drug tested. Is this allowed?
Ask your governing body, and get it in writing. What we can tell you: every ingredient in your bag is listed on this page, it's confirmed with you at your screen, we'll give you a written record of everything you received with the amounts on it, and we won't add anything without telling you. What we won't tell you is that a bag is "compliant" — rules differ between the NCAA, high-school associations and professional bodies, some prohibit IV infusions above a volume threshold regardless of contents, and that call isn't ours to make.
Can my whole team come in?
Yes, and we'd usually come to you instead. A nurse brings the full menu to the field, the course or the camp, everyone drips in parallel, and the travel fee is waived at six or more. See Mobile IV.
Does magnesium make you sleepy?
Some people, yes — a warm, heavy feeling in the limbs is common and usually described as pleasant. It's one reason people book the evening before rather than the morning of. If it's too strong, the nurse slows the infusion and it eases.
How often can I get this?
Around your season and your training block, not on a fixed schedule. Some athletes come the day before every tournament; most come a handful of times a year. If you feel you need one weekly to get through, come and talk to us — that's a sign to look at sleep, nutrition and iron rather than to buy more bags.
How is this different from a sports drink?
Route and dose. A drink goes through your gut and is limited by what you can absorb and keep down; an IV puts a liter of fluid with electrolytes and amino acids into circulation in under an hour. For everyday hydration a drink is fine and cheaper. For a hard effort in Arkansas heat, or when you're already behind, the IV is faster.
