Iron Infusion · Medical · Wynne, AR

Tired all the time?It might be iron.

LUX Med Clinic in Wynne, AR provides iron infusions for iron deficiency confirmed by blood tests, ordered by our medical director Dr. Vaibhav Desai, MD and monitored by our nurses. Each infusion takes 30 to 60 minutes, most patients need one to several visits, depending on the product Dr. Desai orders and your labs, and treatment is $450 per infusion.

This is a medical treatment, not a wellness drip — it starts with a consultation and a recent ferritin result, and there are no walk-ins.

Do I need this?
Only a blood test can tell you. We run ferritin here for $129, or bring results from your own doctor from the last 90 days.

Being tired is not a diagnosis, and iron is not the answer for most people who feel tired. It is the answer for some, it is easy to check, and it is badly under-diagnosed — particularly in women. Start with the test.

01 — Signs worth a blood test

These aren't a diagnosis.
They're a reason to check.

Iron deficiency is common, under-diagnosed, and confirmed with a single blood test. If several of these sound like you, come in for a ferritin and CBC, or bring recent results from your own doctor. None of them means you are iron deficient on its own.

Fatigue that sleep doesn't fix
Shortness of breath on stairs you used to manage
Heavy periods
Post-partum and still exhausted
Hair thinning
Restless legs at night
Brain fog and poor focus
Cold hands and feet
Pale skin, or brittle nails
An endurance athlete whose performance is falling away
A vegetarian or vegan diet
Iron pills that upset your stomach, or that didn't move your levels

02 — How it works

Labs first.
Then a plan.

Iron is a prescription treatment, and the steps exist to protect you. They are also faster than they sound — most patients have their first infusion within a week of walking in.

01
Consultation
Twenty minutes with our clinician: your history, your symptoms, what you have already tried, and what your own doctor has said.
02
Labs
Ferritin, a full blood count and an iron panel — run here for $129, or bring your own results if they are less than 90 days old. A recent ferritin is required. We will not infuse iron on symptoms alone, whatever you are willing to pay.
03
Physician order
Dr. Desai reviews your labs, confirms the deficiency, and prescribes the product and the amount. That prescription is what makes this treatment rather than a menu item.
04
Infusion
Thirty to sixty minutes in the chair with monitoring throughout. Most the number of sessions and their spacing are set by the order.
05
Follow-up
Repeat labs at six to eight weeks to see where your levels have landed, and a text in between to see how you feel.
03 — What we use

The product your physician orders.

We use iron sucrose. It is a long-established intravenous iron, given in a series rather than a single large dose, which is why the plan is a course rather than a single visit.

Whether iron sucrose is right for you, and how much of it you need, is Dr. Desai’s decision based on your labs, how far down your stores are, and how many visits you can realistically make. We explain the reasoning before the treatment — you should understand why you are having something before you have it.

We don’t publish the amounts. Your order is specific to you, it is discussed with you at your consultation, and printing a number on a web page would only invite people to compare it with someone else’s, which is not how prescribing works.
04 — Safety

Monitored, start to finish.

A nurse stays with you
for the whole infusion. Nobody is left alone with a running line.
Vitals before, during, and for 30 minutes after.
The observation period afterwards is not optional, and not something to talk us out of because you are in a hurry.
Reactions are uncommon
and usually mild — a metallic taste, flushing, aches, a headache, temporary changes at the infusion site. Serious reactions are rare, we screen for the things that raise the risk, and we are equipped and trained for them.
Not for everyone.
Active infection, iron overload, certain anaemias that are not caused by iron deficiency, and some medical histories all rule it out or change the plan. That is decided at consultation, on your labs.
Iron staining.
If iron leaks at the IV site it can leave a lasting brown mark on the skin. It is uncommon, we place the line carefully and watch it, and you should tell your nurse immediately if the site stings or burns.

If you ask, we will give you a superbill — an itemised receipt with the diagnosis and procedure codes on it — which you can submit to your insurer yourself to request reimbursement. Whether they pay is between you and them, and we cannot promise anything, but you will have what you need to ask properly.
06 — Questions

Iron infusions, answered.

How long does an iron infusion take?
Thirty to sixty minutes in the chair, plus 30 minutes of observation afterwards, so plan on about an hour and a half for the visit. Your first appointment is longer because it includes the consultation and, usually, the blood draw.
How much does an iron infusion cost in Arkansas?
Ours are $450 an infusion, with labs at $129 and a $75 consultation fee that is waived when you go ahead with an infusion. Drip Club members pay $375. How many you need is set at your consultation from your labs and the product ordered, so ask us for the total for your plan at your consultation rather than budgeting from a single number. Cherry financing spreads it, and we will give you a superbill to submit to your insurer if you want one.
How soon will I feel better?
Most people notice more energy within one to two weeks, though your blood counts and your iron stores take longer to rebuild — that is what the six-to-eight-week repeat labs are for. Some people feel a difference after the first infusion and some do not feel much until the course is finished. Individual results vary, and the labs tell the real story either way.
Iron infusion or iron pills — which is better?
Pills first, for most people. They are cheap, they work for plenty of patients, and there is no reason to go intravenous if tablets will do it. Infusions make sense when tablets have not worked, when they upset your stomach so much you cannot take them, when your gut does not absorb iron well, or when your levels are low enough that waiting months is not reasonable. Your consultation is where that gets decided honestly — if tablets are the right answer for you, we will say so, and you will not have spent anything but the consultation fee.
Will my insurance cover it?
We do not file insurance, so you pay us directly. Ask for a superbill and you can submit it yourself; some plans reimburse some of it and some do not. HSA and FSA cards are accepted here. If cost is the obstacle, tell us at the consultation — Cherry financing over a course is usually more manageable than people expect.
What are the side effects?
Most people get none worth mentioning. The common ones during or shortly after are a metallic taste, flushing, a headache, or aches that settle within a day or two. Rarely, people react more significantly, which is why a nurse stays with you and why we watch you for half an hour afterwards. Tell your nurse straight away if the IV site stings or burns — that one matters, because leaked iron can stain the skin.
Can I get an infusion while pregnant?
Iron deficiency in pregnancy is common and it is treated, including intravenously — but that is a decision for the doctor looking after your pregnancy, working with us if they choose to. Bring your obstetrician or midwife into it before you book. We will not infuse iron in pregnancy without them.
Do I have to have the blood test first? I already know I am anaemic.
Yes, and it has to be recent — within 90 days. Iron overload is dangerous, and giving intravenous iron to someone who does not need it can cause real harm. A ferritin result is what separates treatment from guessing, and it is the reason this page exists in a different part of the site from our drip menu.
Can I just walk in for one?
No. Iron is the one thing here you cannot walk in for. It needs a consultation, current labs and a physician’s order first — every time, including for returning patients whose labs have aged out.
